MPs Invited to Sign “Youth Friendly MP Charter” and show support for Youth Employment Week

MPs will be signing the Youth Friendly MP Charter in Portcullis House on 5th July – and you can invite your local MP to get involved and champion youth employment.

On the 5th of July 2023 between 1 pm and 3 pm, Youth Employment UK in partnership with the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment are hosting a drop-in session in Portcullis House for Members of Parliament to sign the Youth Friendly MP Charter and show their commitment to youth employment.

Members of Parliament have been invited to drop into the session, sign the Charter and meet with some of our Youth Ambassadors to hear directly from young people about their experiences with employment and their journey to work.

The Charter outlines a set of principles that MPs can commit to and put into practice through their constituency and parliamentary work.

The Youth Friendly Charter MP Principles are set out below:

Youth Voice

I listen to young people in my constituency in order to understand their barriers and challenges to employment, and I work to help them to overcome these challenges.

Developing Young People

I support quality learning and development opportunities for all young people, advocating education and training pathways that meet the needs of the individuals.

Creating Opportunities

I support good quality youth employment in my constituency and I recognise those Youth Friendly Employers that are leading the way in offering inclusive quality early careers, work experience and employment opportunities to young people.

Recognising Young Talent

I celebrate the diversity of young people and the important role they play in our local economy as employees, apprentices, and graduates, and their role in our local community through social action and volunteering.

Fair Employment

I help to ensure that young people in my constituency are treated fairly and feel valued in the work they do.

Youth Employment UK will also be sharing our insights and expertise with Members of Parliament on the issues impacting young employment today alongside clear policy asks of how we can work towards ensuring all young people are able to access good quality employment, training and education opportunities where they live.
