Apprenticeship and levy statistics: January 2018

The Department for Education have released statistics covering latest monthly apprenticeship starts, apprenticeship service registrations and commitments and apprenticeship levy declared information. We are anticipating more commentary of this as the day progresses.

Apprenticeship service account (ASA) registrations and commitments 

As at 30 November 2017, there have been a total of 12,200 ASAs registered. Please note that the date of registration is the date the apprenticeship service account first registered their PAYE account number and a legal entity in the digital apprenticeship service system.

As at 30 November 2017, there have been a total of 93,100 commitments entered into the apprenticeship service. Of these, 82,800 were fully agreed.

39,000 commitments were for apprentices aged 25 and over. 38,800 commitments were intermediate apprenticeships, and 40,600 were advanced apprenticeships. Of the 93,100 commitments in the apprenticeship service as at 30 November 2017, 22,000 were for the 2016 to 2017 academic year, and 70,500 were for the 2017 to 2018 academic year.

 

Monthly apprenticeship starts

Between August and October 2017 there were 114,400 apprenticeship starts, comprising of 21,400 starts in August, 58,600 starts in September and 34,300 starts in October. These figures are less than those reported at this point in 2016/17 when there were 36,500, 74,400 and 44,800 starts respectively. These are provisional starts based on returns up until the end of November 2017 and are presented for transparency purposes.
