Remit Training: Be work ready: traineeships – everything you need to know

What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is all about preparation for the world of work. Traineeships are short courses that include work preparation training, CV building, some recognised qualifications and a quality work experience placement. They are a chance to demonstrate your capabilities and enable you to learn the skills you need for an apprenticeship or another full time job.

Traineeships can also be useful if you want to try out a job before committing to it.

Who are traineeships designed for?

Traineeships are a great way of starting your career. Whether you want to work in the automotive industry, hospitality, retail or IT, they are a proven route to get your foot in the door. To do a traineeship supported by Remit Training you must:

  • Be eligible to work in the UK
  • Be aged 19 – 24 (other traineeships are available for 16-18 year olds))
  • Be unemployed and out of full time education
  • Have no qualifications above A level (or equivalent)

What’s included in a traineeship?

Traineeships vary based on where you live and which training provider is supporting you. Remit Training offers an eight-week Traineeship that includes:

  • 5 weeks of work preparation training including workshops to help you write a CV, covering letters, application forms and prepare for interviews
  • A quality work experience placement of at least 70 hours
  • Support with maths, English and digital skills
  • An interview or review session at the end of your traineeship
  • A certificated customer service vocational qualification in

The hours you work on placement can be arranged with your employer. This could be part-time, full-time, shifts and may include evenings and weekends depending on the role and sector.

Before the work placement you will spend time in virtual classrooms developing the skills you need for the workplace and boosting your eventual job prospects. You’ll be assigned a mentor who will check in regularly with you to ensure you’re getting the experience you need for the future.

How much do trainees get paid?

You won’t earn a wage as a trainee but you’ll gain valuable skills and benefit from free career support. You will receive funding for travel and meals.

All traineeship costs are covered by the Government. Depending on your circumstances, you may be able to claim additional financial support through your training provider.
