Not Going To University? That’s okay! Youth Ambassadors Share Their Stories

Read the stories of these Youth Ambassadors who took a different road and chose an alternative to university…

Decided university isn’t the right route for you? Or still wondering if it’s the option you’re going to choose?

Everybody is different, so one route won’t be right for everyone. However, it can feel quite overwhelming if you’re thinking about doing something different to your friends and peers.

Just because you’re considering not going to university as an option, it doesn’t mean you won’t get great opportunities to learn. There are lots of things you can do such as choosing alternative forms of training like apprenticeships or even going straight into the workplace.

Here are some stories from our volunteer Youth Ambassadors who didn’t choose the university route.

Amelia’s Story

Amelia is an apprentice with Youth Friendly Employer Coca-Cola Europacific Partners. She works in mechanical and electrical engineering and was awarded Apprentice of the Year at the FMEA Awards 2021! Amelia talks about her route towards choosing an apprenticeship, what it’s like, and the advice she would give to others.

Euan’s Story

Euan is a degree apprentice. This means he has a job, but he also spends his time learning with a university, so while he chose not to go university after secondary school, his apprenticeship allowed him to gain real-world work experience and a university education experience at the same time (all while getting paid)!

Euan shares his experience as an apprentice and what he loves about his chosen form of learning.
