Marginalised children worst hit by covid mental health crisis, MPS warn

This is a House of Commons Committee Expert Panel report, evaluating Government commitments in the area of mental health services.

Children from ethnic minorities, low-income families and LGBTQ+ communities have “faced the largest impact on their mental health” amid the Covid-19 pandemic, a report by MPs warns.

These groups of children already faced a greater risk of mental health problems prior to the pandemic, but this has been heightened during the Covid crisis and lockdowns. The committee’s report is calling for the NHS to offer more mental health support for young people up to the age of 25, to avoid a missing out on care as they move from children to adult services.
