This year's theme

If you're aged 11 - 30, this is YOUR week. These 5 days (3 - 7 July) are your chance to grow your life and work skills, build on your experience - even though you may not be in training or employment yet - and get connected with people who can support you on your journey to explore next steps, whatever's right for you.

Ways to get involved

Each of the 5 days focuses on a different area with activities, tips and top questions to ask yourself!

Day 1

Skills

Knowing what skills you have to offer can be even more important than your qualifications. See how to recognise your skills, build them, and show them off to employers!

Day 2

Experience

You can build your life and work experience from school onwards. It’s a great way to try new things and build confidence.

Day 3

What’s next?

Whatever you want to do in the future, there are lots of ways to get your foot in the door! See which routes can work for you to approach what comes next with confidence.

Day 4

First jobs

See how you can prepare for finding your first job or training and shining in job applications and interviews. It doesn’t have to be scary!

Day 5

Career Navigator

A career navigator is made not born! See ways to network and make a good first impression in your first job or opportunity.

If you're aged 14 – 22 with an interest in marketing and the inclusive sport of horseracing, you can join the Youth Collaboration Group with Careers in Racing. Build skills and confidence as you do everything from co-designing hoodies and videos to understanding what goes on in a racing yard!

Let’s make a SMART goal for this week…

Making a SMART goal is a good way to achieve your goals, no matter how big or small. You can break down your journey to success into small steps that fit your needs.

A SMART goal is:

  • Specific: What do you want to achieve?
  • Measurable: How will you know when you’ve achieved it?
  • Achievable: How can your goal be accomplished?
  • Relevant: Why is this goal worth the effort?
  • Timely: When do you aim to accomplish this goal?

Example of a SMART goal

“I will check out Youth Employment Week every day this week and do at least one activity on offer, even if it’s just asking myself a question!”

Try this at home

Use the Get Job Ready SMART goals worksheet from McDonald’s to create some SMART goals that will help you step closer and closer to what matters to YOU.
