Working at Surrey County Council – Lara’s Story

What’s it like to work at Surrey County Council? Lara shares her story…

I started my career at Surrey when I was 19 in the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Team (SEND), after working in a nursery supporting children with SEND, an area I am passionate about. I’ve worked in several teams across SEND, progressing into a management position, and managing a team of caseworkers.

After having my little boy in January 2020, I returned to work in a Quality Manager role within CFL. Shortly after an opportunity in HR came up as a Workforce Data Analyst, focusing on Workforce Insights and specifically our Workforce of the Future Strategy.

Quite a change from SEND but the role gave me opportunities to use my experience, and to learn and further develop new and existing skills!

In terms of next steps in my career, I don’t have a specific role ambition, but know I would like to develop my leadership skills and be in a role where I can combine these skills with my passion of supporting others, and where I can have a real impact– something people focussed!
