The Report on Jobs summary for July

REC report

The Report on Jobs sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation identified that in the month of July the number of permanent vacancies reduced again for the second consecutive month. Panellists contributing to the report cited Brexit-related concerns as a reason for the fall. This fall has been the sharpest since May 2009.

In contrast the number of employers recruiting/creating temporary roles had risen. This could possibly be attributed to the fact that at a time of uncertainty employers feel more confident in increasing a temporary workforce rather than creating permanent jobs.

The number of candidates available for both permanent and temporary roles declined in July, which may mean that roles will also go unfilled. There were shortages in staff for Nursing/Medical/Care roles for both permanent and temporary vacancies.

Laura-Jane Rawlings of Youth Employment UK said – “This data needs to be kept a close eye on, if employers slow down their recruitment the impact on the employment space could be far reaching.”

The Report on Jobs is a monthly publication produced by IHS Markit and sponsored by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.  The report features original survey data which provide the most up-to date monthly picture of recruitment, employment, staff availability and employee earnings trends available.
