Level 4 Marketing Apprenticeship Story – Kim’s Journey With Youth Employment UK

Thinking about doing a Marketing Apprenticeship? Kim shares her experience with Youth Employment UK…

Why did you decide to do an apprenticeship?

I decided to do an apprenticeship as it suited my learning style. I am someone who learns by completing tasks, understanding how the task is done and why it’s done in that certain way so an apprenticeship was perfect for me. Being in an office environment really helped me, it gave me passion to continue learning and trying new things to support the company I was working for.

What new skills did you learn? What responsibilities were you given?

When I started my Level 4 apprenticeship I learnt many new skills, starting with time management, creativity and communication. Within a marketing role these were key to enable the organisation to move forward with different projects so learning these quickly was very useful. I was given tasks such as creating social posts, making a plan on how to increase followers on instagram and learning how to create newsletters.

What did you enjoy most about the apprenticeship programme?

During my apprenticeship I enjoyed my continuous learning that I received by not only my apprenticeship provider but my organisation. All the additional training I received from being in the office environment to me was just as valuable as all the content I was learning in my studies. Getting to work alongside experts and a great team really encouraged me to be better and helped to build my confidence across all areas. I enjoyed the opportunities that I was provided whilst doing my studies such as attending events, being a part of big campaigns and presenting online to an audience all which I wouldn’t have had if I had chosen a different route.

Any Top Tips For Apprentices Just Starting Their Programme?

Stick at it, enjoy every moment and do your best. The more you put into an apprenticeship the more you get from it. Ask plenty of questions as no question is silly, this is about your learning and the organisation you work for, they would rather you ask so you can complete the job to the best of your ability.

Any Top Tips For Apprentices completing their EPA soon?

My top tips for completing your EPA would be to use practice papers, review any material given to you by your tutor and memorise key terms. All these tips helped me achieve a distinction in my apprenticeship EPA. By using practice papers I was able to get the idea of how the questions will be asked including terms, phrases and style of question. Reviewing the materials allowed me to create a checklist of everything needed for my presentation and professional discussion. This gave me a great idea of what I needed to include to reach the distinction grade. By memorising key terms and their definitions allowed me to stay calm and collective during the professional discussion, it gave me great points to enable my conversation to flow and feel confident in what I was saying.

Any Top Digital Marketing Tips For New Apprentices Learning The Ropes?

Planning your day and tasks is very important. With marketing last minute requests can come in so make sure everything is planned so you know what your priorities are if these requests do come through. Research and look into what is going on around you and use it to your advantage.

Finally, never stop learning! The world is always changing, this doesn’t always mean do another educational route but even just free courses, events or your own research.
