Early Careers Recruitment and Future Talent: Insight from our Youth Network

youth analytics

Recruiters: Our data research shows that young people take their skills development and careers information seriously. As youth employment experts, we take our data as seriously as our youth-led insights.

More than 65,000 young people use our skills and career resources every month. The information young people are searching for and how they use our site tells us that they are taking their skill development and careers information seriously.

This is an important message as we still hear from employers and employer bodies that young people do not have the skills they need for work. Our traffic tells us that young people really do want to acquire these skills and it is the thing they are most proactively searching for. The challenge is that it’s not always clear to understand what employers mean by ‘skills’ – nor is it particularly easy to develop these skills.

The Young Professional provides young people with free training and the best opportunity to understand the key skills they need for life and work. It gives them a platform to continue to develop these skills with free weekly challenges, inspiration and insight.

Across February we had more than 75,000 unique page views and our users were spending over 2 minutes reading and accessing content.

Popular youth-related content on our site includes:

  • Choosing study options and careers
  • Explanations of employability skills
  • Early career advice, e.g. CV writing

Analysis of site engagement provides evidence that young people are actively seeking to develop their key skills for work. The employability skills they query on search engines, thus reaching the site, match our 5 Young Professional skills.

Strong monthly traffic to our careers pages indicates that young people are trying to educate themselves about the broad ranges of careers available in the UK today and recognise that they understandably need help in making key choices.

Analysing how young people use our site allows us to build a comprehensive picture of their needs and challenges. It also allows us to better understand what works when it comes to content and social engagement. Information that we can support our youth friendly network with.
