APPG Inquiry Report Launch on Place Based Approaches to Tackling Youth Unemployment – 5th July 2023

The All-Party Parliamentary Group for Youth Employment is pleased to be publishing a report from its latest inquiry exploring place based approaches to tackling youth unemployment on the 5th of July as part of Youth Employment Week.

What is the inquiry about?

Where a young person lives can determine the types of opportunities available to them, resulting in young people having different experiences of education, training and employment opportunities and different levels of support. Youth Employment UK’s 2022 Youth Voice Census found that only 14.2% of young people were confident that they would find good quality work where they lived.

It is clear that place plays an important role in determining a young person’s access to opportunity and progress. This inquiry seeks to understand the differing levels of opportunity available to young people at a hyper-local level and explore how a place-based approach to youth unemployment can address locale-specific challenges to move more young people into education, training or employment.

The APPG for Youth Employment received 18 submissions from a range of organisations who provided thorough insight into place based approaches to youth unemployment.

Date and time of publishing

The report will be published on Youth Employment UK’s website on the 5th of July as part of Youth Employment Week at 3:30 pm.

This will coincide with a report launch event being held in the House of Commons at the same time, with contributors to the inquiry, Members of Parliament and other key stakeholders invited to attend.
