Policy Blog: Youth Voice Census Launch

This week we have shared the 2022 Youth Voice Census findings with colleagues, policy makers, employers, Members of Parliament, charities, youth organisations, and many others who care about young people.

In the report’s foreword, our CEO, Laura-Jane Rawlings, reminds us that it ‘takes a village to raise a child,’ so it has been great to see such a range of stakeholders engage with such important research and take time to reflect on the experiences of young people today.

To have over 4,000 respondents answering questions about their lived experiences makes the 2022 Youth Voice Census a special and valuable piece of research full of rich information and insight that enables us all to understand the challenges facing young people today. Whilst the report’s key findings are not the story we wanted to hear and provides a stark warning that we need to think more ambitiously and creatively about how we support young people, the report also provides us with an important opportunity to do better.

We must use these findings to unpick what is not working for young people, rethink the current offer and make sure that we are doing better for all young people in all places across the country. Alongside our full report, we have produced a briefing pack examining the report’s key findings, detailing the current landscape and context which sit behind each of them. We have also set out clear policy recommendations for Government and policymakers to reflect upon.

The 2022 Youth Voice Census reminds us that collectively we need to do more to ensure that young people are listened to, valued and supported.
