About the opportunity

Combining study with hands on practical experience, we will support you in gaining a professionally recognised level 2 qualification in Waste Operations through our 24 month Apprenticeship programme, opening the doorway to a clear career progression path within the facilities sector.

In addition to achieving a nationally accredited Level 2 Waste Resources accreditation, we will also support you in achieving the following qualifications:

  • Managing Safely IOSH Certificate
  • Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM) Continued Certificate of Technical Competence

Responsibilities

You will sharpen existing expertise and develop new skills which can be applied in the facilities sector and become involved in:

  • Assisting in the day to day running of the site to ensure that processes are carried out safely and efficiently.
  • Contribute to the protection of the environment gaining experience of Waste Hierarchy and the principles of waste and resource management; learning how to prevent waste, prepare it for reuse; upcycle, refurbish, recycle, and recover; contributing to sustainability and the environment.
  • Support the efficient use of resources available; enhancing quality in compliance with relevant regulation; contributing to delivering “best in sector” operational performance.
  • Gain an understanding of GKN Aerospaces systems and procedures for receiving, checking, segregating, handling and transferring waste; becoming knowledgeable in the process and knowing how to comply with the relevant Environmental Permit.
  • Supporting in running and maintaining the trade waste discharge plant.
  • Gain valuable skills in how to communicate effectively with managers, peers and our internal and external customers. Additionally you will learn how to deal with conflict with both internal and external contacts.
