The opportunity

Fujitsu is a global technology leader that delivers behind the scenes technology you use every day, at leisure or during the working day. They keep the systems going that people use to manage their finances, shop in-store or online, consume energy or use government services. They employ over 7,000 people in the UK and are now looking for 58 Software Developer Degree Apprentices to join their Software Development role stream.

Apprentices will be encouraged to grow and succeed in Digital Engineering (Software, Platform & DevOps) Testing and Agile disciplines, and will be selected to work within one of two areas. If selected for AMCS (Application & Multi Cloud Services)they will join a team which nurtures them to become good all-round software developers. If selected for DDAC (Digital, Data & Cloud) they will work with a highly skilled team with more specific focus areas (see Key responsibilities section below).

Apprentices will earn whilst studying towards a BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions Degree at Manchester Metropolitan University(if Manchester based) or University of Winchester(if Bracknell based). Study will be undertaken one day a week (20% of time) with the rest of the time spent on the job. More information about the course can be found via the previous links.

Apprentices will receive all the training, networking and support they need to get their careers at Fujitsu off to a flying start. They will be coached and mentored by a wide variety of highly skilled, diverse and experienced colleagues, and will also be part of Fujitsu’s 24-month modular development programme. This covers key skills like self-awareness, leadership, business awareness and business knowledge. It also allows apprentices to network with other junior colleagues across Europe.

Key responsibilities

  • Work with external & internal customers to deliver exciting projects with relevant business challenges
  • Create great software products using a broad range of digital technologies
  • Learn industry leading methods, tools and standards to deliver exceptional digital experiences
  • Develop and grow their technical skills by collaborating with more experienced team members
  • Have the opportunity to experience different roles in the Digital Engineering lifecycle
  • Grow their critical communication and collaboration techniques
  • Use Agile methodologies and open-source technologies based on customers’ needs. (AMCS area)
  • Focus on digital product creation, cloud-native mastery, and advanced consumer engagement and insight through modern application development and data-driven intelligence. (DDAC area only)

Entry requirements

  • Successful candidates must:
  • have an interest in IT
  • be able to evidence an existing or predicted GCSE 4/C or above in Maths and English
  • be able to evidence an existing or predicted Level 3 qualification(s) equivalent to 112 UCAS Points (3 A Levels Grade BBC OR BTEC DMM)
  • Note that if candidates do not have the traditional qualifications listed above, but have prior learning and skills developed from the workplace, these will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • have a right to work in the UK and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years

Details

Locations: Manchester or Bracknell

Office or customer based 2-3 days per week

When first starting, successful candidates may need to be in the office a bit more often to receive support and build relationships. However, they will then be able to join the majority of employees who can work from home on days there isn’t a specific reason to be in the office or to visit customers

Salary: £20,000

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, (generally 9am -5:30pm Mon-Fri but flexibility can be discussed at interview.

Duration: 4 year contract, anticipated to start Sep 2023

Progression: Potential for permanent role based on performance and successful completion of qualification.

All candidates will be asked to undertake a virtual strengths-based assessment and a video interview before potentially being invited to attend a virtual assessment centre. If a lack of tech is a barrier for candidates the employer can consider face-to-face assessments instead.
