Travelling around the world, your job will range from cooking for the ship’s company on board warships or Royal Marines on land operations, to serving a fine dining experience to politically influential VIPs and Royalty.

The Royal Navy represents the United Kingdom worldwide, forging new alliances and maintaining old ones. Being a Caterer in the Royal Navy is a career that is literally miles from anything you could do at home.

At this job you will:

  • Take responsibility of ordering, receiving, and accounting for provisions to sustain the menus you write
  • And when there’s a good chance you could be at sea for months at a time, the role of Caterer becomes about a lot more than food
  • Be at the centre of keeping morale high and health at its optimum

    Things to consider

    Training and development continue throughout your career with the Royal Navy. It takes place in two distinct environments: at onshore training facilities and on-board operational ships. When you join you complete 10 weeks of basic naval training, followed by 27 weeks of role-specific training, focusing on:

    • Different styles of catering to match the diverse requirements of the job
    • Food hygiene
    • Health and safety
    • Catering accountancy
    • Stock control

No qualifications required – just that you pass a Recruit Test and are in a good state of health and fitness.
