About the opportunity

You would be supporting the children and young people to enjoy their free time at the weekend and after school, by enabling them to do activities of their choice. All the work is based in the borough of Bromley. This role should be looked upon as an income boost.

The role is to support disabled children and young people to enjoy stimulating and enjoyable leisure time both in their family home and in the community. You will work with children and support them to enjoy their free-time, access a range of activities and new experiences whilst giving their families a break from caring.

Main responsibilities

  • To work with disabled children and young people, their parents/carers in planning appropriate and enjoyable leisure experiences.
  • To risk assess activities with the support of the Short Breaks Development Officer
  • To be aware of and implement safeguarding procedures on a day to day basis to ensure adherence with best practice.
  • To take responsibility for day to day adherence to Bromley Mencap’s policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To maintain confidentiality and respect the dignity and privacy of children/young people and their families.
  • To work flexibly, to be on time and to engage in a variety of activities.
  • To make a positive contribution to the development of children and young people.
  • To attend supervision sessions as required.
  • To work and communicate professionally, providing positive role models.
  • To communicate clearly, concisely and honestly about the support that is being provided to children and young people.
  • To get to know children/ young people and their families and work with them to provide quality short breaks.
  • To participate in relevant training.

Training and Support

  • You will receive an induction to Bromley Mencap and to your job
  • You will have a line manager and receive regular supervision
  • You will be provided with training to enable you to do your job effectively
