About the opportunity

80% of your time will be spent in the workplace, and 20% of your time will be spent off the job, completing a training programme specially designed for your apprenticeship with a recognised training provider. This learning may be delivered via in person workshops, in the workplace or by online delivery.

You will learn from experienced colleagues who will support you to gradually take on the following responsibilities through the duration of your apprenticeship.

What you will learn

In training you will learn the background knowledge that will help you to understand the bigger picture of work, including:

  • How the heritage sector works: The people, organisations, policy and legislation that make up this fascinating area of work.
  • How to bring together external partners for meetings, events and collaborative working
  • How to organise your time effectively, juggle priorities and meeting tight deadlines
  • How to engage with and build relationships with a range of colleagues.

What activities will you be involved in as a Business Administration apprentice?

  • Overseeing monthly trainee reporting; sending reminders, extracting data and images from reports.
  • Monitoring the Heritage Building Skills inbox, including triaging e-mails and allocating replies to team members.
  • Booking travel and accommodation for trainees for attendance at college and other training events.
  • Logging annual leave and sickness absence in liaison with host firms.
  • Responding to, logging and processing trainee overtime and bonus payments.
  • Organising meetings, including finding dates, sending invites and occasionally taking notes.
  • Looking for ways to improve the programme`s administrative processes to make them as efficient as possible.
  • Occasionally supporting with other administrative tasks, to support the work of the wider HOF programme team, e.g. booking catering and meeting rooms, raising Purchase Orders

Training, experience & qualifications

Where a business administrator has not already achieved Level 2 English and Maths, they must do so before taking the end-point assessment of the apprenticeship.

Knowledge & skills

  • Skilled in the use of IT packages and systems (e.g. MS Teams, Word, Excel, SharePoint, Google Drive)
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to work accurately with data.
  • Well-organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Be curious and have a desire to continuously learn.
  • Good time management skills, able to stay on top of regularly recurring tasks.
  • Ability to think critically about how things could be improved
