About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Receptionist and Administrative Assistant in the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography (SAME). You will provide reception services for the SAME, and general administrative support for other School activities.

This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety, combining desk-based administrative with more active work welcoming and directing visitors, and helping to keep the School’s site facilities in good order.

You will support a wide range of the School’s activities, assisting with academic administration, research project management and public communications.

About the apprenticeship

As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon and Witney College, where you will complete a Business Administrator Level 3 Apprenticeship. For this apprenticeship, you will work at the School of Anthropology and Museum Ethnography at 51/53 Banbury Road, Oxford, OX2 6PE.

As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to attend Abingdon and Witney College. During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend either Abingdon or Witney Campus for the period of 1 day per week for 10 weeks.

The contract of employment is for 2 years. In total, it will take 18 months of that 2 year period to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

Start date: From 3rd October 2022 onwards

Apprenticeships start date: January 2023

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career in business administration and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon and Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process. There are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
