About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice IT Support Officer in the Department of Materials who are one of the world’s leading materials teaching and research institutions including the ground breaking.

You will work as part of a small team of IT professionals which provides local support for all systems attached to the Department’s network, provides local support for all University-wide IT services, and coordinates contact with external IT suppliers and providers as necessary.

Each day there are typically 600 active devices on the Department’s wired network which links the six buildings on the central site and a further six buildings at the Begbroke site.

Around 650 people use 400 desktops, 300 laptops, 100 equipment control systems and various other networked devices.

About the apprenticeship As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Basingstoke ITEC, where you will complete an IT Solutions Technician Level 3 (Hardware option) Apprenticeship.

For this apprenticeship, you will work at the Department of Materials in Oxford and attend a mixture of online and face to face apprenticeship training as required.

In total, it will take 18 months to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

Grade and salary: Apprentice Grade 1:£20,047 per annum

Hours: Full time (36.5 hours a week)

Contract type: Fixed-term Apprenticeship 18 Months

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career in IT Support and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed. To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Basingstoke ITEC will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process, there are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
