About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for you to join the University of Oxford as an Apprentice Administrative Assistant in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences.

Our department is the top ranked centre for academic primary care in the UK, we lead world-class research and training to rethink the way healthcare is delivered in general practice and other primary care settings, both across the UK and globally. Integrating evidence and innovation, our main research focus is on the prevention, early diagnosis, and management of common illness.

Supporting a growing, friendly administrative team, you will carry out reception duties such as letting in visitors, and general administrative duties. You will support administration in a range of areas including HR, finance and departmental initiatives.

You will have the opportunity to undertake First Aid and Mental Health first aid training, and to support administration for Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives. Although you will be formally line managed by Jessy Morton (Office Manager and Department Safety Officer) and Katrina Hadirampela (HR Partner), you will receive supervision and training from most members of the team as you explore different areas of business administration.

About the apprenticeship

As part of this role, you will undertake an Apprenticeship with Abingdon and Witney College, where you will complete a Level 3 Business Administration apprenticeship.

As part of your apprenticeship, you will be required to complete a training programme that will cover all aspects of the role and will be delivered through in-house training, as well as day-release or other distance learning methods delivered by Abingdon & Witney College.

During your apprenticeship, you will need to attend Abingdon and Witney College 1 day per week for 10 weeks.

In total, it will take 20 months to complete all elements of the apprenticeship, with support from the Department, University, and College throughout.

About you

You will be passionate about starting your career in business administration and excited about the opportunity of becoming an apprentice at the University of Oxford. You may be starting your career or you may be looking for a career change.

To complete the Level 3 apprenticeship you will need to evidence passes at 9-4 or A*-C in GCSE Maths and English. If you did not achieve these grades, do not let that put you off from applying as you can study Functional Skills as part of the apprenticeship giving you the equivalent qualifications needed.

To help check that you have the potential to achieve these, Abingdon and Witney College will ask you to complete a short initial assessment during the application process; there are also government residency requirements for Apprenticeship funding which the Training Provider will be able to advise on.
