Problem Solving: Task 1

Problem solving Task 1

First up let’s recap some of the problem solving from your young professional test:

You’ll remember that problem solving is all about finding solutions to problems that arise right? It involves making sure you remain cool, calm and collected under pressure to make sure you work through a problem logically – of course you remember.

Let’s start with a quick fire quiz to check you are comfortable with the terminology: don’t worry we’ve kept this bit simple

Ok so now we are all caught up let’s look at how you might solve a problem

Whenever a problem comes up in work, use this 5-step process:

1.Write the problem down.

2.Analyse what is right and what is wrong in the current situation.

3.Identify the likely causes of the problem.

4.Identify the most probable cause and test this out.

5.Take action to address the problem.

Problem solving you can do offline:

See if you can think about the questions below. It’s useful to you to come up with actual examples. It’s also very useful to come up with examples from your own life and work experience.

  1. Why are problem solving skills important to an employer?
  2. How could you develop your problem solving skills? Give an example.
  3. How can you demonstrate good communication skills? Give an example.
  4. How could you demonstrate your problem solving skills to a prospective employer in a job interview? Give an example.
