About Warehouse Operative Apprenticeships

Modern warehouses are fast moving and incorporate some exciting technological advances including robotics, automation and working in a live environment using different methods of learning. A warehousing apprenticeship is an excellent start for a career in the logistics sector.

You will be supporting the movement of goods around the globe and influencing developments within the industry. You don’t need to be an expert already, an apprenticeship will teach you the skills you need for jobs now and in the future.

Typical tasks include:

  • picking and packing products for customers
  • moving products around the warehouse facility
  • using assisted technology and manual handling (MHE), which you will be trained on
  • using IT systems to keep accurate records of products
  • health and safety, following rules and guidelines to keep yourself and your colleagues safe while working

After completion, you may move on to level 3 transport and warehouse operations supervisor apprenticeship or team leader and technical operations departmental manager and then possibly to level 6 chartered management.

Apprenticeship duration: approx. 12 months

Salary expectations: starting salary can be up to £16k

Where you could work

You could work locally to where you live or choose to travel. Warehouse operatives may work with or alongside technology. They may also work in temperature sensitive environments or with products that require careful handling, the range of products and how they are moved through warehousing is truly fascinating! Warehouse work offers flexibility too as they operate around the clock, so they tend to have multiple shifts to choose from.

“We are very proud to be providing opportunities for upskilling and retraining for people of all ages, at all stages of their careers, helping to address skills gaps and increase social mobility.”

– John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager at Amazon.
