Teacher Training Scholarships & Bursaries – #GetIntoTeaching

You may be eligible for a bursary or scholarship when training to teach. #GetIntoTeaching

These are tax-free amounts of money you receive to train in certain subjects. You do not need to pay them back.

Your bursary or scholarship will be paid in a minimum of 10 equal monthly instalments over the duration of your course by your teacher training provider.

Your teacher training provider will confirm the payment dates and amounts.

Scholarships are offered by independent institutions. They set their own eligibility criteria and candidates need to apply through the relevant scholarship body:

The Royal Society of Chemistry

If you have a passion for chemistry and want to inspire the next generation of scientists, then a teacher training scholarship from the Royal Society of Chemistry can help you on your way.

This year we are awarding £29,000 tax-free funding to up to 150 talented individuals entering chemistry teacher training in England in the 2024/25 academic year.

Our Initial Teacher Training (ITT) Scholarship scheme is run in partnership with the Department for Education.

£29,000, tax free, is available to support unsalaried trainee secondary school teachers through their year of Initial Teacher Training (ITT).

You’ll receive our support and guidance along the way, through accessing resources, free CPD webinars, a coaching programme and workshops.

You’ll enjoy two years’ free Professional (MBCS) membership.

The Institute of Mathematics

Obtaining a Mathematics Teacher Training Scholarship opens up a world of CPD, networking and knowledge sharing opportunities for Maths Scholars.

This includes complimentary membership of key mathematical societies, providing access to a wealth information regarding the latest developments in mathematics and maths education to help inspire and support teachers in their role.

Our CPD events provide opportunities for Maths Scholars to hear from inspirational speakers, take away resources and talk to experienced maths teachers, developing personal networks which will last a lifetime and give them confidence to progress in their career.

The IOP is awarding 175 scholarships worth £29,000 with professional development support to talented individuals who are passionate about physics and have the potential to become inspirational teachers.
