SkillsLondon 2015

Over the 13th and 14th of November Young Members and Youth Ambassadors of Youth Employment UK have been helping out and attending SkillsLondon. The event was great as always and had some amazing employers, educators, training providers and organisations. There was lots to see and do and it was a great event for young people and adults alike.

“I attended the Excel London programme on 13th November, 2015 and it was amazing. As my first time in volunteering in such a programme, I really loved it. Indeed, working with Rhiannon was marvellous, she gave me whatever I needed to feel part of the show.” – Nicholas Okyere

Over the Friday we went and manned some help desks and also looked around the room. With interesting talks going on at each zone there was definitely something for everyone. I and Nicholas both attended the BT talk where they talked about how BT has some great opportunities for apprenticeships and graduates and how they are advancing and leading in technology in certain formats.

“The fact I volunteered at SkillsLondon let me be on the events team for the day. This was an amazing opportunity which allowed me to improve my communication skills as I had to give visitors directions.  Also, volunteering on the day made me more confident and I was happy that I could help people while doing so. Lastly, I enjoyed the fact I was given the responsibility to look after the information desk for the day.” – Catalina Dutu

On the Saturday, Kerys and I went around doing social media for the morning with the #makemea competition going on. We also had Mev helping out around the industry talks seminar area, Catalina on the information desk and Maria on the sponsors and press area. You could see young people walking away from the event with a lot of useful information and more guidance on what careers they would like to go into.

“I had an interesting time volunteering and got to meet lots of different employers. I saw a variety of careers I could now go into.” Kerys Wilson
