How does a Coach Core Apprenticeship work?

You’ll be employed and paid for a minimum of 30 hours per week. This includes your Coach Core Apprenticeship learning time. No need to worry about student debt!

Earn money by working with an inspiring sport, leisure or physical activity provider. At the same time, you’ll work towards your qualification in community sports coaching. You could earn and learn in a pro sports club, leisure centre, school PE or afterschool club, or youth club… to name just a few!

At first you’ll work as an assistant coach. When you’re ready, you can move into a lead coach role – yes, even during your apprenticeship!

You’ll also get access to loads of extra events, training opportunities and experiences through Coach Core. We encourage all employers to provide extra coaching qualifications for their apprentices and also try to give you access to events and opportunities through other employers in your area. We also provide access to UK Coaching resources and workshops to support your personal and professional skills too, including mental health, managing money and networking to get ahead.

We know that young people are facing more barriers than ever to accessing meaningful employment and education. Too many employers don’t take you seriously. Too many employers don’t respect that you might have had extra life challenges, or extra needs. We’re here to change that… through a shared love of sport.

Coach Core works with a range of partners to provide a sports apprenticeship programme that helps you develop skills, confidence and knowledge to build a long term career.

• 1 in 4 of our apprentices are female, 1 in 5 are from ethnically diverse communities and 1 in 6 have a learning support need. We believe in you.
• 80% complete their apprenticeship and get qualified… or move into employment or further education/training

• 74% are now earning a higher salary
• 60% are still working with their original employer
