If you need someone to talk to, these helplines and advice hubs are here for you. They can offer you free support.

If you’re feeling unsure about your next steps, or worried about your current situation or state of mind, these support centres can help you in lots of ways.

Young Minds

Young Minds are the UK’s leading charity fighting for young people’s mental health. Their website has a wide range of free mental health toolkits and resources. If you need help with feelings, coping with life, mental health conditions, medications, supporting a friend who’s feeling low or anything else, they have the resources to help.

Samaritans

Whatever you’re going through, you never have to feel like you don’t have the right to get in touch with the Samaritans. They are ready to listen.

The Mix

If you’re aged 13-25, you can contact The Mix for information and support regarding student stress, mental health, and worries. The Mix is totally free and confidential. When you get in touch they’ll bend a listening ear, offer information and resources, and connect you to experts and peers who can give you the tools and support you need to meet life’s challenges.

National Careers Service

If you’re feeling low about your skills or about seeking work, the NCS does not offer mental health support but it does give you free careers advice from qualified experts who can help you see your strengths and explore jobs, careers and training you might not have thought about before.

Wherever you are in your decision-making, you can call the NCS for free on 0800 100 900 or use webchat. Their Webchat does not work in IE11 – you will need to use a different browser ie chrome, firefox, etc.

Students

If you’re feeling held back or stressed about exams or education, or if you’re not sure what to do next in life, these UK student helplines can help.

Childline – Exam Stress

Childline have an online exam stress help centre, and they invite you to get in touch with them – it can be about exams or something else.

Nightline Student Helplines

The Nightline Association is a national organisation of university student helplines. You can use their Find my Nightline service – just type in your university’s name to see if it is covered by a Nightline.

Skill: National Bureau for Students with Disabilities

Skill promotes opportunities for young people and adults with any kind of disability in post-16 education, training and employment across the UK. You can use their database to find out which colleges and universities would be good for you in terms of support. They have a range of resources for disabled students and young people including college applications, financial assistance, examination arrangements, disclosing disability, looking for work and much more.

Students Against Depression provides you with resources to find a way forward from stress, low mood, and depression.

Student Minds

Student Minds is a UK mental health charity for university students. They offer support programmes as well as university services. They’ve also got advice on how to help you start a conversation with your friend about issues affecting them.
