Meet Beth...

Beth is a crew member who works with her mum Natalie at the same McDonald's in Cheshire. Beth's mum suggested she apply for the job before college started, so she could get a little extra spending money and an education at the same time...

How do you find working for your mum, Natalie?

I don’t really see it as my mum… I see it as working with a friend, so we get along quite well, as well as her being my mum. We have little jokes together and I thought it was going to be quite hard but it is good.

What about when you both have to get through a busy shift?

I would suggest to work together and not get stressed out with each other, because it makes it get hectic.

How are you encouraged to be yourself at work?

My store encourages me to be myself by allowing me to wear the makeup that I wear (as long as it isn’t heavy) and letting me dye my hair bright red. Most jobs wouldn’t let you.

And they do encourage you to be yourself through communication with customers too.

How is the social life at McDonald’s? Have you made friends?

The social aspect of working is really good. I have made a few friends and you get to be a social group together, you go out and go to quiz nights as a group and bond outside of work as well as inside of work.

What skills do you use in your role?

The skills I think I use most are timekeeping – so how fast you can do things, and putting in a good time.

Also, probably people skills – with communication to customers as well as staff.

DID YOU KNOW? Timekeeping is a big part of building up your self management skills.

What do you do when you are not working?

I like to go out with my friends and watch movies and sit with my cat.
