The best careers advice I ever received…..

We spoke to our ambassadors and some of our staff to find out what the best careers advice they ever received was:

Be Prepared: Always go in well prepared- take your certificates in whether asked or not (if relevant) and take in those you haven’t been asked too (if relevant,) such as a First Aid qualification.

If you’ve been asked to prepare something? Take the paper copy of your speech, nerves can get the better of you and it is good to have a prompt.

Take in a note pad and pen: You can write down answers to questions you think you might be asked- and this helps in dress rehearsals of your interview. Yes- questioning yourself and giving answers really does work. Even better if you can do it with a friend.

Take your time: Finally give yourself time to answer the question. Keeps being said I know, but if you count one, two, three in your head then answer your answer sounds better and more confident”.

Hannah, Youth Ambassador

Be confident: Just because you are good at one thing does not mean you will not be good at another, do not talk yourself out of applying for a position because it is different to what you are used to,

Pay attention to the wording of job descriptions do not dismiss a job because it states ‘would suit someone from a sales background’ or ‘ideally we would like someone with a background in’ these are not solid requirements for the role and you do not have to dismiss your suitability for a role based on the description, if you feel that you could be the right person for the job apply’
