Tips for Employer’s

Getting UK employers to back our young people is something we are wholly committed to doing.  We know that even experiencing one conversation with one employer can have a huge impact on a young person.  Add in a sprinkle of work experience a dash of a mock interview and squeeze of mentoring and we have a recipe for a fully engaged and employable youth generation.

Some employers do it without even realising it, some employers do it and invest huge amounts into doing it.  It all counts, every activity your company does that supports 1 young person is making a difference.

So how can you do it and where possible you could do it better?

With Schools, Colleges & Universities

  • Think about offering to help with a careers talk, careers event, supporting mock interviews, work experience and if you are recruiting let your schools know, you can talk directly to your school or
  • You can register with organisations like STEMnet (if you are in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Maths Sector) and Speakers4Schools two government supported organisations that connect employers and educators

Work with the Jobcentre

  • Your local jobcentre is there to support both the local unemployed people and the employers within their community, they can help you access financial support available through the youth contract, they can help you recruit and will welcome your support with their job clubs and careers information services.

Work with youth organisations

  • Because of the high levels of youth unemployment there are many youth organisations who are trying to help young people make the step into work, they would welcome your input and support in working with their young people at some level.
