Minister presents awards at Youth Employment Showcase

Youth Employment UK CIC (YEUK) are hosting a celebration and awards event on the 25th of November at Chelsea FC to showcase both employers and young people who are leading the charge on tackling youth unemployment.  The awards for most Youth Friendly Employers 2014 across three categories will be presented by the Skills Minister Nick Boles MP.  Mr Boles MP will also be presenting three awards to YEUK’s volunteer ambassadors who have gone over and above the call to help YEUK in its mission to reduce youth unemployment.

The Showcase will be attended by guests of YEUK and include a range of employers, youth organisations, charities and young people from across the UK.

Laura-Jane Rawlings CEO of YEUK said “Youth unemployment has been a major challenge in the UK for a long-time.  The youth unemployment figures are slowly decreasing and this is good news for young people and the economy, although there is still work to do.  We see a lot of excellent examples of young people and employers working hard to create opportunities and stem the bleed of youth unemployment.  This event is a celebration of just some of that excellent practice and commitment.

Creating a Youth Friendly culture in the UK is part of our work and we are delighted that Plotr, the Skills Minister and our other partners are able to support this work by joining the celebration.”

Jim Carrick-Birtwell CEO of Plotr said “It is so important that all young people are provided with the skills, encouragement and opportunity to thrive.  Their wellbeing, and the wellbeing of our society depends upon this.  We’re delighted to be supporting YEUK and their inspiring youth ambassadors as they campaign on this agenda.”

Nick Boles MP said “I am so pleased to be here today to celebrate all the people who go that extra mile to help young people move in to successful careers. For our long-term economic plan to work, it’s vital to build bridges between the world of work and education.

“That’s why I’m calling employers across the country to follow the lead of those honoured today and take an active role on developing the workforce of the future.”

Sponsors of the award categories include Association of Education and Learning Providers (AELP), E-Squared and REED NCFE.

“AELP is proud to sponsor an award at the Youth Employment Showcase because our member providers share the same values that Youth Employment UK is articulating on the challenge to get more young people into meaningful careers.  With cross-party support for the expansion of Apprenticeships and Traineeships, accompanied by the drive of Plotr and others to improve the quality of careers advice around the country, we now have a terrific opportunity to really drive down youth unemployment over the course of the next Parliament and give employers the skilled young people they need to make the economic recovery sustainable.” S Segal AELP CEO
