We believe that Youth Friendly employers make a difference to the opportunities and chances that young people have.
Designed with young people our Youth Friendly Principles give Community Members a code of best practice to work towards to ensure good youth engagement.
Youth Friendly Principles
Youth Employment UK’s five Youth Friendly Principles are:
Youth Voice – Commitment to listening to young people and to providing opportunities for their voice to be heard within a community or organisation.
Creating Opportunity – Commitment to providing diverse opportunities for young people to gain the skills and experiences they need for work and life.
Recognising Talent – Commitment to recruiting young people based on their ability, talent and potential. Understanding they are still developing and may have had limited work experience during full-time education.
Fair Employment – Commitment to removing barriers for young people to enter the workplace. Offering fair opportunities and rewards based on the role recruiting for and in accordance with the highest industry standards.
Developing People - Commitment to training and supporting the development of young people, so they are motivated to take ownership and responsibility for their careers and they are equipped to progress..
Community Members receive practical help and guidance from Youth Employment UK on how to develop their policies and behaviors to align with the principles. Community Members are able to gain accreditation through our Youth Friendly Framework, share their practice with our Community and enter our Annual Youth Friendly Employer Awards.
Youth Friendly Employment Framework
The Youth Friendly Employment Framework has been created to underpin our five core principles, it supports organisations to develop their strategy for youth employment and allows them the opportunity to be Youth Employment UK accredited as a Bronze, Silver or Gold Youth Friendly Employer.
Endorsed by Goldsmiths University our Youth Friendly Framework gives organisations the tools and support they need to ensure their organisation is positioned to maximise the potential of the young people it engages as employees, customers or other stakeholders
"The Youth Friendly Framework has been constructed to establish a sustainable approach to youth friendly employment practices. Key to this is the requirement for development of appropriate policies. Organisational policies have the effect embedding an initiative over time, but they need to be underpinned with a clear outline of the roles and responsibilities attached. The Framework provides for these. Finally, the regular review mechanisms included throughout the Framework ensure that the youth-friendly employment initiative stays current and relevant to the changing needs of the organisation" Dr Anna Carlile.
