Let’s Talk About Elections

In the run up to the 6th May, Youth Employment UK are bringing together an event to hear from MP’s about local elections.

Shadow Minister for Young People and Voter Engagement Cat Smith MP and APPG for Youth Employment Chair James Daly MP and will  break down elections for young people.

This is a brilliant opportunity for young people to engage with MPs and understand more about voting!

Young people will gain an understanding about:

  • how voting work
  • the variety of elections and what they are for
  • what they are voting for
  • how they can get involved with local politics.

We will also have a 15 minute Q&A with young people where we will open up the floor for them to ask Cat and James anything about elections and local politics.

Partners are invited to share this opportunity with the young people in their network. If young people in your network would like to attend, please ensure that they register in advance for this meeting. After registering, they will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

  • Guest speakers introductions
  • Local Council elections
  • Combined Authority and London Mayoral elections
  • Police and Crime Commissioner elections in England and Wales
  • How can young people take part in local politics in their area*
  • Open to questions from young people
  • Thank yous and close

*e.g volunteering, raising funds for public services such as a library, swimming pool, scouts/brownies etc., informing the right authorities about issues in their area e.g. potholes, graffiti, green spaces/parks etc., climate change issues e.g. recycling, litter, transport links
