Nearly seven million people of working age in the UK are disabled or have a long-term health condition. That is almost 1 in 5 of us. The UK economy cannot afford to overlook such a significant segment of the workforce. Disabled people offer a wealth of talent, experience and perspectives that help companies to grow, reflecting the diverse range of customers they serve.

We know that many employers are committed to creating an inclusive workplace. However, we understand that for some there can be worries around supporting disabled employees. We would like to find out more about your experiences employing disabled people, your challenges and successes.

We are carrying out a number of roundtable discussions in March:

London – Tuesday 20th March

We have more events taking place in:

Manchester – Tuesday 6th March

Edinburgh – Wednesday 14th March

We want to find out:

  • What are your experiences of recruiting and retaining disabled people?
  • What are your concerns and what support do you think you need to feel more confident employing disabled people?
  • What has worked well for you when employing disabled people and what has not worked so well?
  • What ideas do you have for increasing employment among disabled people?

Everything you say in this discussion will be treated as confidential. We want to hear your individual experiences so that we can do more to support employers to become confident employing disabled people.

On the day you will be able to hear from others who have found creative ways of enabling more disabled people to flourish in their workplace. You will also be able to find out about the support we provide to employers and/or learn more about providing more opportunities to disabled people.

Refreshments will be provided and there will be an opportunity for networking at the end of the event. We have made every effort to make our venue accessible, however if you have any specific requirements or queries about accessibility, please let us know.

This work will inform our Untapped Talent campaign, calling on the government and employers to recognise the huge potential and benefits that disabled people bring to the workplace.

If you are interested in taking part in this event, please get in touch before the 15th February. Thank you in advance for taking the time to share your views with us.
