Almost a fifth of the working age population is disabled, which represents a large proportion of the potential workforce. The Greater Manchester Talent Match demographic reflects this, with a fifth of programme beneficiaries stating that they have a disability. At 19 years of age, disabled young people are twice as likely as their non-disabled peers to not be in any form of education, employment or training (28% compared to 13%). Disabled people are twice as likely as non-disabled people to remain so (15% compared to 8%).

According to latest figures, 44.3% of working age disabled people are economically inactive, a figure which is nearly four times higher than the figure for non-disabled people (11.5%). Whilst this gap has remained stable for several years the World Health Organisation predict that numbers of people with learning disabilities and mental health issues will grow. It is therefore key that businesses understand how to support people with disabilities both into and in work, in order to benefit from an under-utilised talent pool.

The national average number of people with a learning disability in employment is 5.8%. For much of Greater Manchester the rate of people with a learning disability in employment, is around half the national rate.

Delegates will get a chance to:

  • Learn about support you can freely access for employees with disabilities.
  • Hear case studies from employers sharing their best practice.
  • Share challenges and successes and discover top tips around recruitment.
  • Find out more about the Greater Manchester Talent Match programme.

Spaces at this workshop are limited and allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you would like to attend, please sign up here to be added to the guest list.
