What is the EY Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Technology?

Start your tech career with the EY Degree Apprenticeship in Digital and Technology. You’ll gain real work experience, develop your digital skills and work towards a BSc degree – without the student loan.

As part of the wider Technology team, this apprenticeship enables you to help EY and our clients find new ways of using artificial intelligence and other innovative technologies to improve their business. You can specialise in either software engineering or data analytics, and this will determine which business areas you join.

What will you be doing?

You could be helping teams to solve client problems using technologies like blockchain, or analysing huge data sets and building insights to present to clients and EY specialist teams. The work and clients will be varied, so you’ll gain knowledge and skills that will set you up for a rewarding career.

  • Specialising in Software Engineering or Data Analytics
  • Analysing data sets, designing, prototyping and building new tech solutions for clients
  • Working in supportive teams across Assurance, Consulting, People Advisory, Transactions or Tax
  • Helping clients use the latest tech to deal with complex issues like fraud

You’ll be constantly learning – You’ll balance on-the-job training alongside studying towards your BSc. You’ll also gain a host of transferable skills, on-the-job coaching and support from a careers counsellor to ensure that you reach your potential.

Software Engineering

  • 3 year programme
  • Study towards a BSc degree in Digital Innovation accredited by the Open University
  • Training is delivered by ADA National College for Digital Skills
  • You’ll study towards your degree alongside working within our Consulting service line across a range of projects where you’ll solve problems using new technologies and techniques.
  • You’ll receive a dedicated career counsellor, line manager and buddy to support you while you’re on the programme.
  • We have dedicated online training delivered by EY people to support your development.
  • This programme is available in London.

Data Analytics

  • 4 year programme
  • Study towards a BSc degree in Digital & Technology solutions accredited by Roehampton University
  • Training is delivered by QA Apprenticeships
  • You’ll gain on-the-job experience within Assurance, Tax, People Advisory Services or Transactions. You’ll be designing and building data solutions for clients and providing important data insights to EY and specialist teams.
  • You’ll receive a dedicated career counsellor, line manager and buddy to support you while you’re on the programme.
  • We have dedicated online training delivered by EY people to support your development.
  • This progamme is available in Birmingham, Bristol, London, Leeds, Reading, Newcastle, Manchester and Southampton

Having gained a grounding in the IT aspects of finance industry and exposure to our large client base, you’ll have a treasure trove of practical experience along with the theoretical knowledge you’ve acquired from studying for a degree. This will open up opportunities both inside and outside EY.

What entry qualifications do you need?

Entry qualification requirements:

  • Still studying? You must be completing 3 A levels, 5 Highers or equivalent.
  • Left school? You’ll have achieved 3 A levels, 5 Highers or equivalent qualifications.

There are no required topics of study, and you don’t need to have any prior technical experience or qualifications – we are looking for people who are passionate about

technology and have a strong desire to learn.

The EY Degree Apprenticeship is a government accredited apprenticeship. In order to be eligible to apply, at the time of commencing your apprenticeship you have to be:

  • 16 years old or over
  • Not in full-time education
  • Not in receipt of government funding for further education, higher education or learning support
  • In possession of UK/EEA Nationality or Permanent Residency Status – you’ll have been living in the UK/EEA for at least 3 years prior to starting your apprenticeship.

What support and qualifications will you receive?

Here at EY, we understand the young people are the future of digital – and the future of finance. You can expect first class training and support throughout your degree apprenticeship with EY.

So how does it work? You’ll spend approximately 80% of your time on the job training and 20% of your time off the job, studying towards your degree qualification, helping you to develop in-demand digital skills that will prepare you for the workplace of the future. You’ll specialise in either data analytics or software engineering, creating innovative solutions for our clients.

Then there’s the practical, hands-on side of things. You’ll build on your theoretical skills in our teams with our clients in between your block release sessions. As well as your technical training, you’ll develop essential know-how through a range of activities. Over four years of training and education you can expect to experience web-based learning, shadowing senior colleagues and team members, and training courses with EY’s in-house experts. You’ll be assigned a career counsellor on day one who’ll work closely with you to identify your strengths and help you grow in your career.

  • Self-management skills, so you can work independently (on your own) once someone has shown you what to do.

  • A level of maturity – we want to see you have a professional attitude and look forward to fitting into a work environment.
  • A willingness to work hard and engage in personal development (develop as a person) as well as build your professional skills.
