Surrey County Council Apprenticeships: Business Admin

What is a Business Administration Apprenticeship?

Are you taking your first steps into the world of work? If you are 16 or over you can apply for an apprenticeship. Combining practical training in a job with study, you will be paid and receive an education qualification.

With a Surrey County Council Business Admin Apprenticeship you get a salary and combine work, study and training in an office environment. Get to grips with a wide range of projects with plenty of mentoring to boost your skills. On successfully completing your apprenticeship you'll get a qualification, too.

We believe that apprenticeships are really important to Surrey - and we value you as a potential new member of our team, as well. In fact, our very own Deputy Council Leader started out as an apprentice!

Tell me more...

This apprenticehip is a junior role, supporting a programme of work, study and training designed to develop skills and abilities to achieve a Level 2 or 3 Business Administration Apprenticeship.

You'll support the work of the council by contributing to the delivery of services and projects allocated and supported by a manager.

This is an entry-level position where you're given the chance to learn about business administration through learning on the job and formal study.

You'll be expected to aim to be hardworking and professional - but don't worry about making mistakes, because we all make mistakes when we're learning new things!

What will this role involve?

You'll undertake a course of studies and develop a broad range of skills within your training to achieve a nationally recognised Apprenticeship or another qualification.

You'll build up a working knowledge of how things are done in organisations like Surrey County Council as you help out on exciting and socially important projects as part of a team.

You'll be part of a team helping to make sure the service continues to run as smoothly and well as possible. You'll be working with managers and employees in a sociable and supportive environment.

You will mostly be helping out the Personal Assistant and Executive Assistant in their daily work. You will also help the Director of Property Services and work with the project support team to process invoices and make bookings.

What skills do you need?

The most important thing you need is a willingness to learn and the motivation to get ahead.

You have to be able to work towards an apprenticeship, with Functional Skills level 2 or two GCSEs.

You'll need basic digital skills so that you can use a computer and office equipment.

Be prepared to follow instructions! Aim to work quickly with a good eye for detail and picking up new ways of doing things.

You need strong writing skills with solid knowledge of punctuation and grammar.

It will help you get the job if you can show the interviewer that you are able to work well in a team and have past experience of taking part in working on projects, whether at school/volunteering or beyond.
